Oncology Physiotherapy Group

Oncology Physiotherapy Group is a special interest group of the SASP, which aims to build an environment in which physiotherapists can interact to promote and enhance oncology rehabilitation care for cancer survivors and patients living with cancer. The group advocates evidence-based practice and emphasises continued education to encourage members to align with best industry standards in the field. 

VISION 
To advance the role of physiotherapy in oncology care, enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors in South Africa through knowledge sharing, professional development, and collaborative practice. 

MISSION  
1. To raise awareness among physiotherapists about the critical role of physiotherapy in oncology, emphasising its importance in the rehabilitation and management of cancer patients.  
2. To support physiotherapists seeking to upskill in oncology by recommending relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses, workshops, and resources.  
3. To provide a safe and supportive platform within the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) for physiotherapists to connect, learn, and share knowledge, experiences, and innovations in oncology physiotherapy.  
4. To encourage and promote evidence-based practice in oncology physiotherapy, ensuring that interventions are guided by the latest research and clinical evidence.  
5. To raise public and patient awareness about the benefits of physiotherapy in oncology, advocating for its role in enhancing quality of life, improving functional recovery, and managing cancer-related symptoms.  
6. To foster collaboration and raise awareness among medical colleagues, such as oncologists and surgeons, about the importance of referring cancer patients to skilled physiotherapists as part of comprehensive cancer care.
